Doodling in the Instagram Challenge

This is the second month I have joined in with the doodling challenge over on Instagram run by @christina77star and @alexandra_plans and it has been great fun – I even got to doodle whilst I was away on holiday on the beautiful island of Kefalonia.

Here are some of the pictures:

I took my Staedtler Ergosoft pencils with me on holiday and they came in handy for the doodle project

Pretty nice view eh?

Pencilling in a few days before colouring – funky flip flops!

Back at home catching up with the rest of the month – I know the idea is to do one per day but sometimes I just don’t have the time so have to draw out a few.

IMG_6229

Ahead of schedule but here is the finished spread in my bullet journal – very happy with the outcome – it will be something I can look back at in the winter months and remember all that sand and sea!

If you want to see other people’s work in the challenge just search the hashtag #doodlewithusinjuly over on Instagram.

Happy doodling for next month!

#MySpotOnEarthChallenge Weeks 7 & 8

I hope that for those of you who have been followig the My Spot On Earth Challenge you have seen a little piece of the beautiful place I call home!  It would be lovely to share this landscape with others so if you want to join in, please do so by tagging your photos on Instagram with #myspotonearth.

I have combined two weeks into one in this post as the time seems to have flown by and summer seems in full swing here in the lane.

IMG_6160

I love roses – they just epitomise July and these beauties I am lucky enough to pass by each day when I walk with my dog, Monty.  The quote in my journal I thought was so lovely and when I look back during the cold winter months I will remember these blooming roses, how the air felt and the scent they gave off every time I walked by.

IMG_6192

A little further up my lane are fields of barley and so I included the lyrics from one of my favourite songs by Sting, again to remind me when the fields are bare in the winter of the beauty of the summer months.  It’s a truly inspirational place to live!

IMG_6157

I certainly will remember this day and my walk in fields of gold.

Brush and Fountain Pen Review

As I mentioned in my last post here I am slightly stationery obsessed and found myself purchasing a few more pens – like I need these!  So I thought it would be a good idea to do something useful with my new stash and review them!

So here goes…..  First up is the Lanxivi Jinhao 159 Medium Nib Fountain Pen which I purchased from Amazon in the UK for a JAW-DROPPING £8.00 👍

IMG_6156

Sitting in rather a colour coordinated way in the middle of this week’s spread in my ever-so-lovely bullet journal!  She is chunky with a screw top lid and has a weighty feel with a good balance when writing and has smooth ink delivery – bit technical! She writes nicely 😀 in other words…..

IMG_6166

Excuse my doodling ‘work in progress’ but now you can see the nib which is medium and gives a nice smooth line – there is not much change between thick and thin but I don’t think this pen was designed for calligraphy use – just for general writing.  I am really pleased with it – for the price it is amazing, rivalling many more expensive pens that I have seen recently.  And one more thing in its favour – the colours.  It comes in black, blue, yellow, purple, orange, champagne (gold), green, white and red, so plenty of opportunity for further purchases!

Not content with these two pens (I also bought one in green) I then decided to buy some more brush pens.  Now, I have some Tombow Dual Brush Pens and love them but holey, moley they are expensive!  When I saw these ones from Amazon which were a fraction of the price I thought, hey, why not – nothing ventured.

IMG_6162

These are by a company called Magicdo which is written in the description on Amazon – I must admit I’d never heard of them but other reviewers gave them the thumbs up and they don’t disappoint – so far!

They are not as ‘floppy’ as the Tombow pens can be and the brush is a little more solid – however you can still get very thin and thick lines depending on the pressure used.  The colours are lovely and they seem to be full of ink although I am not sure how long this will last – watch this space.

IMG_6163

So, altogether a good few purchases to add to my stash. Does anyone else use these pens or similar?  I’d love to get your feedback, so leave comment below or catch up with me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram – buttons at the top.

I really shouldn’t – oh go on then!

No, it’s not about cake – although I am very fond of the odd slice – it’s more about an obsession of mine.  Stationery – I know, sooo glamorous isn’t it!  But I seem to be slightly stationery obsessed – pens, paper, pencils, you name it and I want it.  So during my pre-trawl on Amazon a few days ago (ahead of their Prime Day) I noticed a few more items just waiting to be bought!  By me.  Obviously 😁.

IMG_6154

Can you see them?  Nestling in with the other pens?  Two beauties – all I need now is a green Leuchtturm1917 notebook and I will have a matching pair!

Not content with two fountain pens I decided that some practice paper would be needed so added a Calligraphy Paper Pad and Rhodia Dot Pads to the basket along with some more brush pens – like I need more of these!

IMG_6162

So these brush pens only cost £13.79 from Amazon and I must admit I was a bit sceptical as I am well aware that brush pens can cost a lot of money – well the Tombow ones do.  However I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of these beauties – check out my review on these and the beautiful Lanxivi fountain pens here.

So to accommodate all these new goodies, I’ve had to have a bit of a tidy up in my workroom- looking tidy now, but give it a few days!

Bullet Journal – June Roundup

June seem to have come and gone in a flash!  Here are my memorable bits:

IMG_5889

Nice opportunity to keep a record of my ever growing coloured pencil collection!

IMG_5976

Followed closely by a bit of washi tape love!

IMG_6044

Plenty to do in the garden this month, with so much rain there has been a massive growth of everything – including the weeds!

IMG_6047

Monthly spread and meal planner – this was useful to refer to for appointments and for making the shopping list – definitely in for next month.

IMG_6045

One of my favourite weekly spreads – I love a bit of washi and colour!

IMG_5956

A big day for us here in the UK with the Referendum vote – but worth journaling about for future reference.

IMG_6043

And plenty to celebrate with family and friends.  Along with atrocious weather.

But my highlight must have been the #doodlewithusinjune challenge run by two great doodlers on Instagram – Christina and Alexandra. Our challenge was #doodlewithusinJune and the theme was Under The Sea. Here’s how I got on! Read All Doodled Out In June to catch up with how the challenge worked.

#MySpotOnEarth Challenge Week 6

There is a reason why the British love talking about the weather!  Why?  Because it changes so quickly over the space of hours and minutes you never know what you are going to get!

This week I have sheep on the paddock next to my garden, who greet me every morning with a very loud ‘Bahhhh” as I walk past on the way to feeding my chickens!  They are a friendly bunch (or maybe they think I am going to feed them) but they come trotting over to the fence to say hello, so I thought they could feature centre stage in my photo this week – accompanied by words from ‘The Lamb’ by William Blake.  All very British!

It was a tough choice this week as to what to feature.  The spice girls were high on the list….

IMG_6019

Followed closely by the swaying Barley – looking lovely in the sunshine…..

IMG_6023

But the lovely sheep won the day – getting a bit of shade on a beautiful sunny day…..

Do You Bullet Journal on Holiday?

Work’s finished, clothes are on the spare bed, suitcase has been retrieved from the attic/shed/cupboard – you are all ready to go on your summer holiday.  Exotic locations, beautiful beaches, cool clear waters……..  Sounds sublime!

How are you going to record it all?  We all have our smartphones ready to capture the moment but the big question is – Will You Take Your Bullet Journal on holiday? Yes or No?

This is the conundrum I am currently facing.  Do I Bujo on my hols or not?  I have scoured favourite bullet journal websites and forums and the resounding answer is – HELL, YES!

So that’s what I’m gonna do!

IMG_6046

I’ve got my packing list with a plan of what I’m wearing each night (more or less)….

IMG_6035

I’ve got my lovely Leuchtturm 1917 in sunny yellow – very apt! and my gorgeous fountain pen……

IMG_6032

Got my pencil case ready, with a selection of coloured pencils, pentel pencil, eraser and micron pen……

IMG_6034

And my fab little LG printer and sticky pocket photo paper so I can print straight from my phone and stick a picture into my journal straight away.   No messing! And of course a bit of washi tape for decoration!

And last but not least ……

IMG_6039

My holiday reading list – primed and ready to go on my Kindle!  What more could a girl ask for on her summer holiday!  Kefalonia, here I come……

What do you pack to bullet journal on hols?  I’d love to know so leave a comment below.  Happy holidays.

All Doodled Out In June

Well what a great time I’ve had this June joining in with two great doodlers on Instagram – Christina and Alexandra. Our challenge was #doodlewithusinJune and the theme was Under The Sea. Here’s how I got on!

Started out quite calmly but a bit unsure of what I was doing!

Started to warm to my theme – it’s been a long time since I used coloured pencils!

Brilliant fun…

Forgot how much I loved to doodle!

Not bad so far

I’m using my Leuchtturm 1917 notebook which is my current bullet journal.

And lots of colour pencils including Pelikan, Derwent and Staedtler

Which really make the colours zing!

Not quite Finding Nemo but a happy clown fish nonetheless.

And here is the finished article.  If you want to see everyone else’s amazing doodles then visit Instagram and search #doodlewithusinjune. A big shout out to bossgirlbujo   the_bulletjournal_addict   stnrylovers   planningmyday   and of course Christina and Alexandra – links above – all of their doodling was amazing!

Did you join in this challenge?  Wasn’t it great!  Happy doodling in your Bujo’s everyone

Lavender’s Blue, dilly dilly……

Lavender’s Green, When I am King, dilly dilly, You shall be queen….

Or so the nursery rhyme goes! This English folksong always reminds me of flowers – I used to sing it to my boys when they were babies!

The bees are visiting the garden every day now – industriously collecting pollen, and the flowers are all starting to bloom, including the lavender which grows on my patio.

Here is my tiny slice of life, showing you where I live each week for a year as part of this photography/bullet journal challenge.  My Lupins (favourite flower) are coming in to their own (visited by the bees) and the lavender will soon be spectacular.

The weather is not great – the sun seems to be a stranger much of the time and there are frequent showers but I suppose this is good for the plants – if not the humans!
